“Each time one prematurely teaches a child something he could have discovered himself, that child is kept from inventing it and consequently from understanding it completely.” -Jean Piaget
What does a typical day look like?
Most of the year, the playschool day begins outside where the children are free to move their bodies, connect with friends, help in the garden, and play! We go outside every day, even in cold weather and rain. With proper outerwear, the children have fun in all types of weather and build resilience. We often eat snack outdoors, too!
Inside, the children play with open ended materials in the living room, explore sensory materials in the kitchen, or create in the art studio. Individual and group projects often emerge from the children's interest and are a way to explore ideas in a deeper way. Below the children work on a collaborative ocean project.
After play time, we clean up, eat lunch together and then read books on the front porch and reflect on our day until pick up time.
